Mae Ralph Ellison (1913-1994), yr awdur, y beirniad a’r ysgolhaig sy\u2019n Americanwr Affricanaidd, yn adnabyddus am ei nofel glodwiw, Invisible Man<\/em>, a’i straeon byrion. Bu\u2019n gwasanaethu fel morwr masnachol ac ail gogydd a phobydd rhwng 1943 a 1945, gan gyfrannu at ymdrech y rhyfel heb fod yn rhan o’r fyddin Americanaidd wahanedig. O ganlyniad i’w leoliad, daeth i Gaerdydd, y Barri ac Abertawe, a dyma ble y lleolir ei stori, ‘In a Strange Country’<\/em>. Ysgrifennodd ddwy stori arall a leolwyd yng Nghymru, ond ni chyhoeddwyd y rhain. Mae’r straeon yn canolbwyntio ar them\u00e2u hunaniaeth ac ymberthyn, ac mae’r cyferbyniad rhwng y croeso a gafwyd gan brif gymeriadau’r straeon yng Nghymru a’u triniaeth gartref yn yr UDA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yn ei gyflwyniad ar gyfer yr argraffiad i ddathlu deng mlynedd ar hugain ers cyhoeddi ‘Invisible Man’<\/em>, ysgrifennodd Ellison am ‘In a Strange Country’ <\/em>a’i them\u00e2u fel a ganlyn: ‘Roeddwn i wedi cyhoeddi stori arall lle bu\u2019n rhaid i forwr Affro-Americanaidd, ar lan yn Abertawe, de Cymru, fynd i’r afael ag agweddau ‘Americanaidd’ trafferthus ei hunaniaeth ar \u00f4l i Americanwyr gwyn roi llygad du iddo yn ystod blacowt yn ystod y rhyfel ar stryd yn Abertawe o’r enw Straight… Ond yma daeth y pwysau o hunan-graffu gan gr\u0175p o ddynion o Gymru a oedd wedi\u2019i achub a’i synnu drwy ei gyfarch fel ‘Ianc Du’, a’i wahodd i glwb preifat, ac yna canwyd Anthem Genedlaethol America fel clod iddo.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n
