Ydych chi’n cofio’r oes honno pan fyddai pobl yn ysgrifennu llythyrau at ei gilydd ac yn eu postio? Na finnau chwaith. Ond roedd pobl YN gwneud hyn! A Dylan Thomas… waw, oedd e wir<\/em> yn mwynhau anfon llythyrau! Rwy’n eistedd yma yn edrych ar 1062 o dudalennau o lythyrau. (Oce, mae rhai o’r rhain yn fynegai a chyflwyniad, ond gadewch i mi orliwio ychydig.) Ffordd arall o edrych arno yw o’r ochr – 2 fodfedd o lythyrau. Gallwch hefyd edrych ar bwysau’r llyfr – gallai dorri bys troed os nad troed gyfan.<\/p>\n

Felly, yn y b\u00f4n, mae’n llyfr mawr.<\/p>\n

Rwyf wedi bod yn ei ddarllen am sawl wythnos nawr ac rwyf eisoes wedi ymgolli yn ei fyd. Gan ddechrau gyda llythyr a ysgrifennwyd gan Dylan pan oedd yn 11 oed ac yn dalentog iawn, mae’r casgliad hwn yn nodedig. Mae’n hynod ddoniol, yn ddireidus ac yn huawdl iawn. Rwy’n gwneud cofnod o’r holl ddarnau rwyf am eu darllen eto mae’r pensil wedi rhedeg allan yn barod.<\/p>\n

Un o fy hoff linellau yw: \u201cI often think that baths were built especially for drowsy poets to lie in and there intone aloud amid the steam and boiling ripples.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ar adegau mae’n arbennig o farddonol, ond yn aml mae’n ddiamheuol o ddrwg. Mae ei lythyrau yn rhan gyntaf y casgliad yn dangos ei hyder yn ei grefft, yn enwedig ei feirniadaeth rymus o feirdd eraill. Mae’n disgrifio William Wordsworth druan fel “human nannygoat”, “tea-time bore” a “Great Frost of Literature”. Poenus!<\/p>\n

Ond yr hyn yr ydw i’n mwynhau mwyaf yw ei lythyrau at ei gyd-fardd a’r ferch a fyddai’n wejen iddo, Pamela Hansford Johnson. Ar hyn o bryd, rydw i’n darllen am ramant sy’n ffynnu wrth i Dylan geisio yn enbyd i gydbwyso ei feirniadaeth o’i gwaith \u00e2 chanmoliaeth wylaidd am y lluniau mae’n eu hanfon ato.<\/p>\n

Ar \u00f4l darllen chwe deg pump o dudalennau (a 4mm) o’r casgliad, rydw i’n teimlo fel fy mod i’n nabod y “llanc afiach” a fyddai’n dod yn un o feirdd enwocaf Cymru. Cadwch lygad am y diweddaraf wrth i mi gloddio’n fanylach!<\/p>\n
